[ Dick is doing something similar. Or at least he'd say he was. Part of it is getting the lay of the land, part of it is that staying in the safehouse all the time would drive him insane.

He's not shocked to see Batman in a street brawl, but his movements are more aggressive than they've been in years. Instead of being efficient, he seems to be taking out anger on them. Dick sighs to himself.

He spots the thugs coming around the corner and decides to give Bruce a hand... and perhaps save them from an unnecessarily severe beating.

Silently, he jumps down from the fire escape he's been hanging out on and slams his entire body weight onto the back of two of them. They crumple and hit the ground with a groan. A third lunges at Dick, who just sighs and side-steps. The third thug tries to dart at him again, but Dick just disarms him this time. The knife clatters to the concrete and Dick uses the man's momentum against himself, throwing him to the ground.

Dick grabs their weapons in case they try to get up anytime soon and tosses them in a dumpster. He dusts his hands off dramatically. ]

You know, I think they got the message, Batman.

[ Dick's dressed in all black with the hood of his hoodie up and dark glasses on his face. His voice is pitched a little lower but still maintains that playful lilt to it. ]

( it takes a second for him to notice the assist dropping in but, when he does, it's met with a fleeting flash of surprise on his face. his assist is young, small... and not at all dressed in ways that could protect him from being shot at or stabbed unexpectedly. )

What're you doing here?

( his voice is low — a growl, grabbing one of the thugs by the back of the collar there in the floor and dragging him off to the side, throwing him atop another already down and out for the count. )

[ Oh he knows that tone of voice. Bruce is pissed. He winces. ]

I was in the area and I saw the brawl from the rooftop.

( he's still high from the adrenaline coursing through his veins. natural adrenaline from the fight, not from the injections he has in his utility belt.

steps heavy from the boots he wears, he eyes dick through the black greasepaint beneath his mask, kicking one of the thugs down who tries to get himself up. out cold. )

What're you wearing?

( he's seen the others. they have suits. this? this is not a suit. this is him throwing on whatever he can to use as a disguise and call it a night. )

[ He sighs. Not having his gear really does suck. ]

What I have. I know, it's not exactly impressive.

( again, he eyes him as he moves another unconscious thug over to join the pile. kneeling down, he starts to search them. )

Does he know you've got this?

( he being jason. he's not about to name him out here on the streets after all. )

Doubtful. He's incommunicado right now.

[ He didn't specify to Dick what he was doing, but Dick has his suspicions. ]

It's not like I need anything specialized to take down a few street thugs. What're you looking for?

( that gets him to sigh to himself. dammit, jason. he doesn't look up to dick. rather, he keeps searching. one after another. )

Information.

( a quick flip through a wallet, a glance at a phone, he stands after a moment, tossing the wallet down atop one of the thugs.

moving away, he approaches dick — a glance given to him, then keeps going. )

Come on.

[ Dick follows along, walking just a few steps behind Bruce. He doesn't ask where they're going-- the question is often unnecessary. ]

I think those guys have been knocking over liquor stores in the area. I doubt they'd have any info on the heavy-hitters in the area.

[ Jason-- the owner of the bar-- he'd have some knowledge, but that's not for Dick to say. ]

( he leads dick down another alleyway that's a little ways from where the brawl had been. sticking to the shadows, of course. )

Don't assume.

( you'd be surprised what people see and hear on the streets. )

What do you have on you?

( since he's clearly without a suit. )

[ He resists the urge to laugh. He might be new at this, but he's very much Batman. ]

Knives and a comm.

[ It doesn't sound like much, but he's trained to work with less. ]

From who? Name them without naming them if you'd rather.

( the comm, he means. who gave it to him. )

Same guy who gave me the knives. The one that's unavailable right now. I wouldn't be carrying it if it were from someone else.

[ Someone on the "outside." ]

Might be bugged. To keep an eye on you.

( after all, the lot of them seem to enjoy bugging things. and people.

turning down the corner and further into the dark alleyway, bruce seems to be walking towards nothing but damp, dark, alley, when he waves his hand in front of him and drops the shadows ahead of them...

...to reveal the batmobile waiting. )

[ Dick laughs. ] Of course it's bugged. He even tagged me with a tracker.

[ He tolerates it because he's used to it. His gear tends to be bugged back home for safety's sake. So that Bruce knows where he is if he's in trouble.

Dick frowns when Bruce waves his hand but then the shadows fall away and. ]

Is that the Batmobile?

Yeah.

( one of the things he found had come along with him when he'd discovered himself here. no bike, but. at least he's got the car. )

Don't even think about bugging it.

( it's said both as a joke and seriously at the same time, despite his knowing that the trackers are going to be something of the norm when it comes to all of them here with him.

approaching the car, he slides the door open on the drivers side. it's a heavy hitter of a car. dodge 69 charger, modified to hell and back with an engine that roars in the dark. )

[ He doesn't have his gear but Bruce has a car? Oh that's so unfair.

Dick snorts. ]

I have better ways of finding you if I need you.

[ He slips into the passenger seat. Sorry, did you not want him to come along? Too late. He whistles with appreciation but is smart enough not to fiddle with anything. He knows the ins and outs of his Bruce's Batmobile (even to the point of being able to drive it himself) but this one is definitely different. ]

( this one was intended just for him and as such, he's had to modify the passenger seat a bit so it's not full of parts and the like. since coming here, however, he's found he's needed to make a few adjustments, with more to come, he's sure.

he's not entirely surprised when dick just goes and slips his way into the passenger side, though he does take a moment to just stand there and stare before he gets into the driver's seat. )

Don't touch anything.

( it's said as the door comes to shut and, revving up the engine, he takes them out of the alleyway courtesy of the batmobile. )

[ Hey, he did say "Come on." He never dismissed Dick. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dick laughs again. ]

I know, I know. Wouldn't want to accidentally launch a rocket into a building or something.

( something about the way dick says that gets the faintest of smiles tugging at the corner of bruce's lips. as if the thought is a genuinely amusing one. )

Don't have a rocket.

( yet? )

But I'll keep it in mind.

( he's not exactly speeding down the streets. this isn't a chase after all. but he's not taking his time either. the engine loud and rambunctious behind them. )

Grapple hook is much more useful, if you're taking suggestions.

[ This car isn't great for stealth, but neither is the one back home. It's hard to have the right amount of horsepower and stay silent. Besides, if you're fast enough, noise doesn't always matter. ]

( a smooth turn to come around a corner, he takes them down another dark street, staring ahead with the lights from all the buttons and screens he has inside the batmobile offering them light. )

Are you hungry or anything?

[ Dick lets out a quiet laugh.

With a wry smile: ] Are we going through a drive-through dressed like this?

Probably not a good idea.

( unless it were halloween maybe and even then.

they drive for a little longer until he ends up going down a bit of a slope, heading for a dark patch of shadows there stretched out across the road. a glance over to some of the controls there, he begins to speed up a little then. faster. faster. clocking in close to 100mph. he doesn't look away from the road — doesn't even glance over to dick.

racing for the stretch of shadows ahead, he plunges them into it and they seemingly disappear into the darkness, a strange sort of black sheen flowing around them, breaking out of it then and into what looks like an underground station of some sort.

tires hitting the ground hard, they bounce a little and bruce effortlessly swerves the car until it hits an abrupt stop, engine humming, before he shuts it off.

without saying anything, he pops the door up and slips out, expecting dick to follow. )

[ Dick pushes down his hood and takes off his glasses, but he's not seeing things. That unnatural darkness is there and Bruce is speeding right into it. Bruce wouldn't do something this reckless if he thought there was any kind of real danger, but Dick still braces himself.

And then they stop in an underground station. Dick blinks, a little perplexed. It reminds him a little of Jason's power over shadows.

He gets out of the car, looking around. ]

Is that your power? The one you got from the Confluence?
