burce barely gives a glance over to his sudden companion here before he slowly looks back to the television broadcasting fantastic's speech. he's done some digging around when it comes to Big Names that are thrown about here, but there's still more to it. he knows there is. it's just a matter of what and something else he has on his list of things to figure out. )
Maybe he likes you.
( dry, dry humor. )
no subject
[ his grin might not be visible behind the mask, but roy certainly sounds like he's grinning right now. ]
I don't think he even registered me. Not really. Like he was on autopilot mode, y'know?
[ he glances over at him, casually sweeping his eyes real quick over the man's collection of goods. ]
So, you a fan? [ he tips his chin indicatively at the tv screen. ]
no subject
I'm just passing through.
( people are a little too eager to share their displeasure for fantastic here. as far as he can tell, something's off about him and he's come across enough corruption among the high ranks back in gotham thus far to know when something doesn't quite seem right. even if he can't entirely place his finger on it. so no, not a fan, but he's also not sure what the situation is concerning eavesdroppers and the like.
he's noticed the guards, to say the least. )
Looks like you might be, too.
( given the things he's stocking up on, that is. )

most social media platforms are abuzzed with discontent, enough to pique his interest in doing some digging into the mysterious disappearance of atomight and the rise of fantastic. there's gotta be some kind of backing involved. ]
Just picking up a few things. [ his items are miscellaneous enough for them to be easily overlooked. he reaches into the basket to pull out the pack of gum, waggling it at him. ] Especially this. [ he drops it back in. ]
So, are you building or doing repairs? [ he jerks his chin at the guy's own supply. ]
no subject
which is why the question gets him to stare a little longer at the guy than he maybe intends to β reading him more than anything else β before he looks back over to the television. )
Just trying to find something to do here.
( not a lie. he does need something to do to keep his mind busy. looking back to the guy, however. )
You?
no subject
he doesn't seem all that fazed by his reaction (or lack thereof), but he keeps his smile easy if not a tad unsure. ]
I was actually on my way to grab some food. Saw this store. Thought why not?
no subject
( the humor is dry there, but an attempt was made. )
There's a diner a little ways from here. Coffee's decent enough. Food's not so bad either.
( the one thing any vigilante needs when they're not out being their secret identity: caffeine. )
no subject
Yea, you're right. [ he in fact isn't going to be using the gum for food, so it all works out. ]
A diner sounds great. [ he jerks his thumb towards the front of the shop. ] You wanna come with? If you haven't eaten yet. [ and since he realizes how weird it is for a stranger you met at a hardware store to ask invite you to eat with him, he adds: ] I don't mean anything by it. I could just use some company right now. [ βwhich is the truth because, well, he knows himself and he knows what he'll get up to if he's left to his own devices for too long. besides, the guy looks like he could use some too. ] It's fine if you don't want to.

for the first time in a long time, it really does just feel like him. alfred isn't here to fall back on, despite the way in which he purposefully distances himself from the other man at times. point is, he's without someone familiar here, let alone without his resources he'd worked so hard to create over the past two years. add to that the number of unexpected relationships to others he has here that haven't even happened for him and there's no telling if they will, he could really use some of that right now.
coffee.
still, bruce has to be bruce about it and consider it for a moment before he glances back off to the television for a second or two; they're really hammering those fantastic speeches out.
looking over to roy, he shrugs. )
Sure. Not like I'm carrying frozen goods.
no subject
roy had every intention of working out his issues alone, away from all of the people he knows; yet now it doesn't seem like a real option, not in the way that he had expected it to go. but then again, when has life ever gone the way he expected it to? there are enough people from back home here to make it hard for him to avoid them forever, especially since jaybird is already aware that he's here and his best friend has a Limit to how much bullshit he'll take from him.
he can't even fully commit to going no holds barred with his recklessness right now because arcadia's bigger than whatever stupid issue roy harper has going on and he can't risk flamebird drawing unnecessary attention from the guards by sporting too many bruises and injuries.
so like, he gets that conflicting notion that he needs company when he doesn't think he actually wants it at all. but it's what he's got to do right now to keep himself on the straight and narrow. the stupid can wait until later. he needs to be a hero first because that's really what it always comes down to. ]
Awesome. [ a wide grin to complement the sheer lack of one. ] Is there anything else you need to grab or are you good to go?
no subject
so with a glance down to his basket, he looks back up to roy here, still lacking the brightness that he seems to have. )
Ready when you are.
( fellow hobbyist and all. )
no subject
[ he leads them towards checkout, where aside from a bit of a slow line, purchasing the items was as uneventful as one would expect it to go. by the time they've stepped out onto the streets, roy has dumped all of his goods into his backpack. ]
So, which way to the diner? [ is it within walking distance? do they need to take transport? ]
no subject
when they're out of the shop, his other hand free of purchases holds to a strap of his backpack, bruce looking over to roy before he gives a glance down the street. )
Just a block or two. Not that far.
no subject
[ roy motions for him to go first. ]
Oh, yea. [ once they're on the move, he quickly falls into a relaxed pace beside him. ] I'm Orchard. [ he extends his hand out towards him. ] What's your name?
no subject
Paul.
( he eyes him and then there's a huff of just the faintest bit of laughter as he looks ahead. )
Orchard, huh? First name, Apple?
no subject
roy lets out a genuine laugh. ] No. [ he shakes his head with a smile. ] First name, Orchard. Last name, Greenwood.
no subject
Middle name, Woodland, then. Right.
no subject
[ that's a no to woodland, but it's evident the suggestion amuses him. ]
So, have you lived here for long?
no subject
Long enough.
( keeping it vague. very bruce of him. )
You just get in?
no subject
[ he doesn't plan to stay in central city for long. ]
Bit of a wanderer. I go wherever these take me. [ he slaps the side of his leg indicatively. ]
