After deciding to do some snooping around Arcadia and dragging in Roy after his arrival, Jason and Roy both ended up knocked out, pulled out of Arcadia, and dropped off on an island off of Washington with a facility on it built to hold metahumans. Fun! Except they're both drowsy and depowered, stuck in cells, and aside from Jason's neural implant, they don't have a way to reach out to others from inside. But hey, at least the guards haven't seen their faces, so it could be worse.

I just thought it was odd how chill you were.

( no one, in the history of the world, would ever call jason chill. and the comment is enough that it has him - quieting down while he mulls it over. he guesses the do whatever could come across as being chill, even if it's not quite that for him. )

I'm the least chill person in this entire building - an' that's saying something, cause the guy upstairs is neurotic as hell, Damian kinda lives here, and there's Bucky and the new girl downstairs.

( downstairs is irrelevant, it's more damian and tony that he's really referring to. and kyle, who'd just attacked a prison with zoids. )

I trust you not to be an ass, it's different. ( and he's too tired to really give a shit right now. there's too much going on outside of kyle. )

[ that is a lot of words for a throwaway statement by kyle. he seems to absorb this for a moment. ]

I know.

( he almost adds in a i can always kill you if you fuck me over but opts to leave it out. some things are better left unsaid and all. )

Which's how I know I'll win.

Like you won last time?

[reneger]

That was different. You caught me off guard, 's not gonna happen again. Now I'm expecting it.

( the sudden feelings drops in the middle of a game of chicken. the soft touches. he's got kyle's number now. jason won't get that caught off guard again. )

[torchbearer]

[ kyle smiles faintly, bemused. ]

You are, huh? Guess I'll have to change the game.

[reneger]

( jason--scrunches up his nose, before folding his arms back behind his head so he can lean back against his hands. )

You've got nothing on me, glowstick. You're all out of advantages.

[torchbearer]

[ this is very funny. ]

Okay. If you say so.

[reneger]

( this is shit. he hates this. )

[torchbearer]

[ kyle rises to his feet. ]

Jason. You still call this a game. Sometimes, you hold back saying what you want because it's safer. You think it's about advantages.

[ he moves closer, lets his fingers brush the curve of jason's jaw. ]

But all I have are my feelings. And they're never going away.

[reneger]

( kyle getting up is enough reason for jason to sit up, which puts him that much closer when kyle reaches out for him. he listens. jason's careful to keep his expression neutral throughout, and when kyle finishes he pulls in a breath that causes his chest to rise with it. offers a small smarmy grin after he lets it out. )

You did just lose. ( given kyle is touching him. jason tilts his chin up so he's looking at kyle properly, eye to eye. ) But you're not a game to me. An' I know you're all about feelings.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle rolls his eyes, though he's still smiling. ]

Okay. So what do you want then?

[reneger]

( a very complex, multifaceted question, and it shows in the way his mouth twists into a frown, eyes still not drifting from kyle's even if jason knows damn well he's--faltering. because kyle is right. jason plays it safe. he holds back because he knows the moment he opens his mouth and says shit, that's it for him. it's game over, everyone'll know and jason won't be able to take it back. )

Now, or in general? 'cause one answer's gonna take a lot longer to go through than the other.

[ kyle just smiles. ]

Whichever you feel like saying.

[ which means he'll back off if jason tells him to, but he'll keep at it. ]

[reneger]

( which is neither, thanks, but he also realizes that it's just--giving kyle the win. because he's still thinking of it like it's something to win. not kyle, just--this. which is something he's not quite sure how to put into words, even if he wanted to. life is a complex mess of differing rules for different things and jason only has some of it down. definitely not this bit. jason reaches a hand up to curl fingers around kyle's wrist. pulls his hand away from his chin, and instead moves it to rest his palm against jason's cheek. )

I want you. ( voice quiet, soft. ) I want this. Everything else feels like it's on fire, but this doesn't, and I need that. ( not want but need. ) Which's funny as shit, considering how much of an ass you are.

It balances out how much of an ass you can be.

[ but kyle bends so he can press their foreheads together, his fingers brushing against the nape of jason's neck. ]

You have me. And you can have whatever you want.

[reneger]

( he's used to violence. to headbutts and punches, to shins managing to catch him right in the side of his head, to shit that hurts rather than just--feels soft. jason's had this, too, but it's--associated with one specific person, whose name definitely isn't kyle rayner. that's beginning to shift. fast enough that jason almost, almost raises a fist up and shoves it into the side of kyle's face. just so he remembers where this started at. but he doesn't. )

We both know that isn't true.

( but he's closing his eyes, leaning into kyle. )

What do you want?

[ what kyle wants. it's tricky because he never needs to put it into words. or he simply doesn't think about it. somewhere, deep in his heart, he knows what he wants. what he still searches for. ]

Right now, I just want to be where you are.

[reneger]

( vague. for someone who asks so much shit, kyle's being real bad at returning them. but jason doesn't voice it, because he--doesn't need anything more than this right now. everything is weighty. he likes not feeling like he has to dig. )

Luckily for you, I'm pretty sure I'm wanted by both the Alliance and a cult--so it won't be hard to find me since I won't be going anywhere.

( which he'll break very quickly because jason todd can't sit still without a purpose either. )

[ kyle's lips twitch. ]

Liar. You'll lose your mind after a day or two.

[reneger]

I'll try not to show my face anywhere that may end up with me standing in the middle of a weird cult ritual. Or back in jail. Repeat performances just get boring after a while, you know?

( he's still leaning forward into kyle, but that's getting tiring quickly when he could instead be slouching into couch cushions--so jason reaches to curl fingers around kyle's thighs to pull him forward. )

I was running out of lines to run through anyway, so I'd have to find something else to keep me busy.

[ kyle lets himself be dragged forward as he slots himself against jason. ]

I'm sure you'll find something.

[reneger]

( he's not usually clingy. not usually touchy, either, but it's more from a--lack of people to lean into when it isn't jason doing his best to make them uncomfortable. this isn't that at all; it's jason wrapping his arms around kyle's waist and pulling him in close. it's him leaning into kyle to press his face into the curve of his neck even if it irritates his nose. letting his guard down in ways jason rarely ever does. )

( it doesn't really need a response. he's not planning another jail trip, and if he was, jason knows how to keep his mind busy. )
