I was a known destroyer. Stepping back on Earth set it off. If I had known there were magicians on Earth, it would not have happened.

And it won't happen again.

[ loki smiles at that. ]

He's not much of an enemy these days. None of them are. Even Barton whom I — [ ah. yes. he left out this part a while back, didn't he. loki pauses, and tries again. ] — Even Barton whom I had controlled. I took over his mind.

[Loki had mentioned doing something similar to the Fixer, but not the specifics.]

...did you speak to him about that, when he was here?

[dothelokimotion]

Not in detail. He had other things in mind and he did not see all that angry with me.

[ which is what made their interactions so unusual. and it was nice. for a bit. then clint had said, why are you pretending to care? and loki had gotten stabbed trying to bring sephiroth back. he fell into a rut. he didn't see how his care benefited anyone. ]

That's surprising.

But I'm glad.

I should have told you this sooner.

[ and more, he thinks. ]

You always say that. You know I don't require it of you.

I — [ he struggles for a moment before sighing, looking away. ] — I do know that.

But I know that there's a tipping point. Even my family . . . It was too much.

[ quietly. ]

I want you to see the best of me.

But the worst of you... [He shakes his head.] We accept the worst of each other, don't we?

Of course we do.

[ the answer comes easily. he sighs. ]

When we were facing Thanos, I revealed the Tessaract. That I took from Asgard. Thor called me the worst. He . . . didn't have the chance to say otherwise. I know — I know that he didn't mean it. I know he'd take it back if he could.

But. . . it was true.

[unkindled_madness]

It wasn't.

[Sephiroth carefully tucks a strand of Loki's hair back behind his ear.]

That's just... a feeling.

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki leans into the touch for a moment. ]

I wanted to ask but it was too painful. For both of us. And now I've missed my chance.

[unkindled_madness]

[Sephiroth hesitates. He doesn't really like Thor. Doesn't like the way he seems to appear and disappear from Loki's life without concern. Sephiroth isn't so certain that won't happen again, but he doesn't want to suggest it.]

...maybe he missed his as well. But his opinion doesn't define you either.

[dothelokimotion]

No.

[ and yet, it was thor thinking he could be more that pushed loki at all. even in the islands, knowing thor's last words were ringing in his head, he tried. he's trying.

when will it pay off? when will he feel free of his own crippling self? ]

No, it doesn't.

Your worst faults are nothing in the balance, for what my opinion is worth.

[ loki smiles faintly, placing a hand on sephiroth's cheek. ]

Your opinion is worth everything. You're my world.

[unkindled_madness]

[Sephiroth smiles softly.]

Perhaps we form one together. A world.

I like that idea.

[unkindled_madness]

[Sephiroth lays a hand atop Loki's.]

Both of us together. At our best and our worst.

[dothelokimotion]

[ he shivers, letting his doubts melt away. ]
