[Closed-ish] July birthdays!

What: Birthday party for both Tim Drakes

[Today is both Tim Drakes' birthday. In honor of this, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is closed for the night for a "private event."

On the ground floor where the bar is and where there's the most open space, most of the tables and chairs have been pushed aside while some have been rearranged to accommodate the party. A taco bar is lined up on one side. Hard and soft shells are available, along with a variety of fillings people can choose to make their own tacos.

A projector screen has been set up in front of the bar, alongside a laptop loaded with a movie library.

The birthday cake is a coffee and chocolate ice cream cake with vanilla frosting. It's safely stashed in the kitchen's fridge until it's time for dessert.

Though this family is absolutely dysfunctional and its members don't all come from the same universe or timeline, they're going to make sure two family members have a good birthday party today. Jackass guilds be damned]

"Why not?" Jason says with light ease. "Just because some things have been shitty doesn't mean we can't still celebrate something. Even Robins and bats gotta take an occasional break."

He shrugs up a shoulder. "There's just - more important things than birthdays right now."

(He's very familiar with things being more important than his birthday.)

"Nah. We obviously got time and space for this," Jason casually counters. He then offers the wrapped box to Tim. "Happy birthday, Tim."

"Thank you."

He means it to both things, really. Even if he didn't really expect this, it's nice.

(Also, to no one's surprise, he's a careful unwrapper. Shut up.)

Jason's not surprised that Tim's meticulous with unwrapping things so he patiently waits.

"I know it's nothing like the gear we all carry but this is entirely for fun," he says.

Inside the wrapped box is a DSLR camera. It's not the most expensive but it's still from a known high-quality company.

"Oh."

It's not like - just like this isn't the first party he's had, it's not the first time a Wayne has given him a gift related to photography. And he's talked about it with Jason before. He's just - he doesn't know. It's hard sometimes to figure out how you're supposed to react when family gives you a gift that says they pay attention to things that you care about.

(That's probably something he was supposed to talk about with Dinah back home?)

"Thank you."

Based on what he knows of the Drakes and of this Tim, Jason guesses that Tim's surprised by the kind of gift he just got. It makes Jason feel all the more confident that this party is necessary for the teenager.

"Not a problem. Figured you might like it," Jason replies with a smile.

He clearly hesitates for a long moment before ducking forwards and wrapping his arms around Jason in a tentative hug.

Even if Jason doesn't really want to hug him, it's a special occasion, right? So it's probably okay.

Now it's Jason's turn to be surprised. He hadn't clocked either Tim to be much for physical affection. Then again, tonight is special and the gesture is welcomed. So Jason hugs Tim back.

"Just make sure you get my good side if you take more pictures of me," he jokes.

"I'll look for it," he says (a little muffled with his face kind of smooshed up against Jason's chest) because somehow, someway, he's become a little brother, and certain expectations must be maintained.

Jason chuckles when he pulls back. His hands are still on the teenager's shoulders though.

"And get any goofy shots of the others if they come up," he smirks.

"Okay. There's going to be a lot of Haley, though."

Because Haley may not be part of his usual urban photography style, but she deserves it.

[robintohood]

"Oh no. Too many pictures of a puppy. How terrible," Jason jokes. "I guess she's cute enough for it."

"I might have to spam you with them," Tim says, as if he does not, already, occasionally spam family members with cute pics of Haley. He's never had a pet before, shut up.

In response, Jason makes a comically dramatic sigh.

"I guess we'll learn to live with that," he says.
