[Closed-ish] July birthdays!

What: Birthday party for both Tim Drakes

[Today is both Tim Drakes' birthday. In honor of this, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is closed for the night for a "private event."

On the ground floor where the bar is and where there's the most open space, most of the tables and chairs have been pushed aside while some have been rearranged to accommodate the party. A taco bar is lined up on one side. Hard and soft shells are available, along with a variety of fillings people can choose to make their own tacos.

A projector screen has been set up in front of the bar, alongside a laptop loaded with a movie library.

The birthday cake is a coffee and chocolate ice cream cake with vanilla frosting. It's safely stashed in the kitchen's fridge until it's time for dessert.

Though this family is absolutely dysfunctional and its members don't all come from the same universe or timeline, they're going to make sure two family members have a good birthday party today. Jackass guilds be damned]

[Dick hasn't been listening to the conversation. He's mostly been helping with set up, getting drinks for people who want them. Even if most of them are able to bartend pretty well on their own.]

[Vigilantism tends to be a bit 'jack of all trades'.]

[He's making a couple of soft tacos when Jason grabs his shoulder. The hand reaching out for the cheese twitches toward his shoulder automatically before he gets the immediate instinct to grab it out of his system and the brain kicks in the start putting things together.]

[Which is why he blinks blankly at Jason twice before he grins.]

Ah. Introducing B to Brucie?

[Which means having to resettle his own face. Dick doesn't have a version of Brucie. He's always been too much himself. What he does have is 'handler', which is a wide smile that only faintly reaches his eyes.]

Afraid it's not really a society function, Bruce. No waiters and the caterers have been and gone. But, you know. I can show you how it's done. Not exactly a finger food, but it's meant to be eaten using hands.

[He glances to Bruce with an apologetic smile and rolled eyes. Society people, huh?]

( pulling dick into this— well. at least it's not the younger one? still. despite the way in which dick gives him an apologetic look, bruce's expression remains flat as it settles on both of them there with him.

he's not there yet. he doesn't see the point in being bruce wayne when batman is the one who instills fear and intimidation into the scum of gotham. people look to the signal when it shines in the sky in fear. not at wayne tower which overlooks so much of gotham. people stare into the darkness of the shadows at night in fear that the batman might be lurking within them. not at a rare appearance of bruce wayne out in public. he doesn't get it and as such, he glances off around the venue for a moment.

setting his half-empty drink down there on the table, he looks to them with that flat expression still, hands slipping into his pant pockets. )

( bruce turns to walk away, and jason shifts. takes the hand off of dick's shoulder so he can slide his arm so it's his forearm instead that's against him. slouches his shoulders, and keeps his weight on dick. because he's plenty comfortable here, there's no need to move. especially when he's still talking to dick himself. )

I was being nice. I swear.

( nice for jason todd anyway. he's not even angry right now, or irritated, or any of the normal shit that happens before jason manages to piss everyone off. look: he's chill, he's even staying in dick's personal space of his own free will. )

[Of course, Jason leaning against him like that means he can't really run after Bruce. Which was probably at least partly why Jason kept doing it.]

[Which is why he huffs a sigh and rolls his eyes.]

He actually is. For once.

[It's said seriously, though there's a lilt of a tease there.]

Brucie isn't about making fun of you. Or anybody, really. Well, not by name. It started out more as a way to explain why Bruce Wayne never appears at Wayne Industries meetings and why Lucius runs everything there. The kind of guy who takes in the kid of circus performers or adopts a kid from the Bowery without a second thought. The kind of person who will run at the first sign of trouble, but nobody would connect with Batman showing up immediately afterward.

And it's not like you don't do a lot of good as Bruce Wayne. But nobody likes charity balls, not even the guy who is supposed to be throwing them.

( with jason, it's hard to tell.

dick, on the other hand, is a little more forthcoming in a way that doesn't give bruce whiplash, and it's why he gives pause in his steps and turns some to look back to him as he goes about explaining their little inside joke to him.

that's just it. a lot of this doesn't make sense to him or are things, events, people he doesn't know or has experienced himself. bruce wayne just barely exists as is, so brucie here seems comical in a way he's not interested in. add to the fact that bruce wayne the name and man doesn't really matter much here since this isn't gotham or even metropolis for that matter, he doesn't really see the point.

( this is where, if he wasn't being nice, he'd start calling bruce shy, or nervous, or something else stupid while throwing him a snarky grin to try and piss him off. jason also realizes that's an asshole move, and he is actively avoiding pulling any moves that someone could look at him and go 'jason, you dick' over. it's not his party, he's not going to try and fuck with the mood. )

He's still in his I'm vengeance phase.

( extremely rude of bruce, really, because that's become jason's thing. except harsher, because jason doesn't do half-measures. jason pulls in a breath, then--moves away from dick. he can be an obnoxious little brother later, there's always time for that. )
