[Closed-ish] July birthdays!

What: Birthday party for both Tim Drakes

[Today is both Tim Drakes' birthday. In honor of this, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is closed for the night for a "private event."

On the ground floor where the bar is and where there's the most open space, most of the tables and chairs have been pushed aside while some have been rearranged to accommodate the party. A taco bar is lined up on one side. Hard and soft shells are available, along with a variety of fillings people can choose to make their own tacos.

A projector screen has been set up in front of the bar, alongside a laptop loaded with a movie library.

The birthday cake is a coffee and chocolate ice cream cake with vanilla frosting. It's safely stashed in the kitchen's fridge until it's time for dessert.

Though this family is absolutely dysfunctional and its members don't all come from the same universe or timeline, they're going to make sure two family members have a good birthday party today. Jackass guilds be damned]

I hope so. [ Dick is good at seeing through the polite facade of "I don't really like it but I don't want to be rude," which makes gift-giving a pain. ]

Have you eaten anything yet?

[ If Bruce is here, he's clearly pulled himself away from his work long enough to get something to eat before going back to it after the party.

Alfred isn't here, so someone has to look after him. ]

( he gives a glance around at the taco table, drink there in hand, looking back to dick after. )

I've already had some. A whole taco bar is pretty impressive. They put a lot of work into this.

[ Which is nice of them, especially given that they don't have the usual resources here so this would've taken some budgeting and extra work. ]

Seems like it.

( a glance around — people mingling with each other. it's not too bad, it's just... a room full of people he doesn't really know is all. so he looks back to dick there. )

It's fine so far. His place is secure [ because he knows Bruce will focus on that ] and I have my own room.

Have you found yourself a place?

( he absolutely would and he's already given jason The Talk in regards to making sure dick is properly equipped and taken care of. )

It's a bit of a job, but. ( a lazy shrug, he takes a moment to have a sip of his drink. ) It's coming along.

I'm sure. They won't be giving prime real estate away, especially not to Starfallen.

I'm happy to help if you need another set of hands.

[ He's not sure Bruce will take him up on it, but he figures he might as well offer. ]

( for a long moment, bruce is quiet — considering — before he finally looks down to his glass, swishing around the alcohol a little. )

It's still a bit of a mess. ( and, after a beat. ) If you're up for it though, sure.

Sure. The sooner you get settled in, the better, right?

[ He does try to keep this Bruce separated from his Bruce, but there's enough similarities that he thinks it's safe to say that Bruce is probably in full Detective Mode. Dick is used to helping, or at least clearing the way for Bruce. ]

Kyle's helped me a bit already. At least in getting rid of the debris.

Having a GL helping out is always a boon. He's not a GL where I'm from-- not yet, at least-- but I know a few others.

There's Hal Jordan, former test pilot. There's John Stewart, former Marine-turned-architect. And there's Guy Gardner, former police officer-turned-teacher. Hal and John are part of the Justice League, but Guy flies solo.

[ He's not sure why they'd keep another GL out of the League, but he assumes it's something he's not privy to. Yet. ]

( that's a little more than he'd thought he'd get in terms of lanterns and it shows some on his face as his brow furrows while looking to dick. )

You know a lot of Lanterns.

They're part of an entire corps, so there's hundreds, maybe thousands, of Green Lanterns. I assume there's a ton from Earth because we're the hotspot for trouble in our sector.

And I know a lot of heroes in general. Most of them watched me grow up.

( grow up as if he's not done doing that... )

It's not like that where I'm from.

( his earth which is weird to say. )

Even in Gotham. Joker's been in Arkham for a year now. I'm dealing with someone who goes by the name The Riddler as well as Penguin stirring up trouble.

( all by himself, too. )

That's a lot to take on on your own. Do you know Commissioner Gordon, at least?

[ Dick can't imagine how they'd ensure any justice was served without someone like the Commissioner. ]

Yeah. I know him. He's a good cop.

( one of the few who isn't corrupted. )

We're trying to figure out Riddler's motives.

That's good. You always know that, no matter what, he'll do his best to make sure justice is served. I really respect him.

[ Staying clean in Gotham is hard. Dick has seen so many people get tangled up in corruption.

Dick looks thoughtful. ]

I couldn't tell you, but I do know he tends to latch onto people more powerful than he is in order to protect himself or further his goals. Sometimes his goal is just to prove that he's smarter than other people. His overconfidence is usually what does him in, but he's definitely not the sort of person you want to underestimate.

I doubt you'll find any info on him here, but his name is Edward Nygma.

He's gone after the Mayor, the Commissioner, the DA... I thought it might be political ( his motive ) but... ( joker hadn't thought so. thought it was all personal. ) ...everyone's corrupt it seems.

( back in gotham. )

Maybe. The Riddler I know doesn't care about politics, but it's hard to say how people will be the same or different from place to place.

[ Dick gives Bruce a small smile. ]

It can seem that way, but there are more good people than bad. They just need a chance to be good.

You have more hope than I do.

Being an optimist is one of my many talents. [ His expression softens a little. ]

I've met a lot of different kinds of people and I've traveled all over. Sometimes people just need something to believe in or someone to show them the way.

[batsymbol]

Maybe.

( he doesn't know if that's him back in gotham... doesn't know if it'll be him here and for a moment, as he falls silent, he finds himself thinking about alfred. missing him, even.

looking over to dick then, he licks over his lips, setting his drink down. )

Not the greatest party conversation, sorry. ( hands sliding into his pockets, he sighs. ) I should get going.

[ He watches Bruce. Dick hadn't intended to make him uncomfortable, but that seems to be his lot in life. Ah well. ]
