( jason's throwing kyle another cocky grin, before he's moving a hand to thread fingers through kyle's hair, keeps his weight on his elbow while he leans down and presses another kiss to his lips.

it's deeper this time, soft but exploratory. kyle's still new to him, or at least this part of kyle is. and jason wants to make sure he's--touching and kissing him properly, how kyle likes to be touched and kissed. he's not rushing, not pushing, just--following the cues he's given. )

[ no, there's no rush. every touch kyle gives is reverent sometime, but lately he's been feeling bolder. like the ground under his feet has become more solid. and the point isn't him anyway, it's about jason. he wants to make it all about jason.

after a while, once they crack some beers, kyle makes a note of the movement at the warehouse. not today, but tomorrow perhaps they should hit it and hit it hard. ]

So, how would you rate this date?

( jason likes--softer touches like this once he adjusts to them. he's all sharp edges, until he isn't. and kyle like this, pressed close, soft and warm under him just feels good. it feels right.

as does sitting next to him when they break apart to go back to the drinks kyle had brought with him. jason downs a good half of the beer he's got in hand, before he's raising a hand to wipe across his lips and lowers it down to set it on the rooftop.

pulls himself up to his feet. )

As a date? ( he raises his hands up, idly counts off on his fingers. ) I'll give it a solid seven. You good to wait here for a minute? Wouldn't want your lack of stealth capabilities giving us away.

( may as well bug the warehouse while he's here. )

[ kyle rolls his eyes in good humour. ]

Yeah, go for it.

[reneger]

( another grin gets thrown kyle's way, before jason's leaning back to fall into his own shadow.

intentionally, since it seems to just eat him up. jason's gone, but kyle will be able to spot him moments later on top of the warehouse roof for just a few moments, before he's slipping into yet another one.

uses it to travel into one inside the warehouse, where he'll casually slip through dark corners, dropping bugs where they're unlikely to be found anytime soon. )

[ looks like jason's getting more used to his powers. which is good. he'll be safer that way. kyle will probably never shake off the fear, the slow creeping doubt but he can rely on jason to take care of himself.

cradling the beer, he watches the warehouse silently. ]

( he's getting more used to leaning on them. not relying on them, because he doesn't rely on anything but himself--but they're handy on occasion, and there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of something useful. know how to use every tool in your utility belt but never depend on them and all the other bullshit bruce used to spout.

it doesn't take him long, given how much quicker traveling is these days now that he can simply take a step into the shadows and find himself elsewhere. and then he's crawling out from kyle's own shadow, putting a hand on his shoulder as he pulls himself up and out of it. )

Forgot to ask--you think you can work with Dickie an' his shiny new meta-abilities?

[ kyle blinks, thrown off guard by that. ]

You want him to train with me? Why? I never had formal training.

[reneger]

He called himself a glowstick. Made me think of you.

( his voice is soft, affectionate even. jason leans down to start picking up their mess. )

None of us had formal training for this. 'sides, it'll be fun to watch you get your ass kicked by a fourteen year old.

[ kyle still look unsure. ]

I don't know. I've never trained anyone before.

[reneger]

I have.

( jason waves the bottle in his hand back towards kyle, and heads off to the edge of the roof. )

I'll help.

Actual help or laughing at me help?

Why not do both at once? I can multitask.

You'll be fine. You're personable. An' Dick's easy.

( well. he waves a hand, gestures for kyle to hurry the fuck up. )

Dickie Junior is anyway.

[ kyle deploys a construct to help clean up. ]

Dick and I were never super close. But sure, I'll do what I can.

Do you think he and I were any better?

( the look he shoots kyle is almost--incredulous. luckily the domino mask covers most of it. )

I met him a couple times as a kid, an' then I died. Came back, tried to fuck him over multiple times--hell. I've only been on his tolerate list for a few years now.

[torchbearer]

Yeah, but you're all connected. Part of something.

[ even when the corps came back, kyle still had that sense of disconnect. that he wasn't enough when he offered the rings to guy and john to come back, but hal had been. he kept the light going for others, but he didn't see much of it himself. ]

[reneger]

Does being part of the GL Corp make you feel connected to all of 'em?

( it's not that he doesn't get along with dick. they're mostly fine these days. jason tries to be less quick-tempered, dick tries to be more understanding. but it's complicated. )

[torchbearer]

[ kyle shakes his head. ]

I'm not part of the Corp. Not like that.

[reneger]

And I'm not one of them. Not like that.

( sometimes he is. sometimes he teases damian like he's a normal thirteen year old, or talks about girls with dick while they're on stakeouts. sometimes he watches tim knock out dozens of guys bigger than him while wishing he had popcorn so he could really enjoy it.

sometimes bruce tells him he was a mistake and tells him to get the hell off his turf. to not come back. sometimes, he pisses dick off enough to make him really angry, and there's almost nothing more terrifying than that. )

You know if our B ever shows up here--I'm screwed. Right?

[torchbearer]

[ he frowns lightly. bruce is a tentative topic, even if jason is the one bringing him up. ]

What do you mean?

[reneger]

He told me off. Real firmly. The rest of them follow his lead.

( therefore, if his bruce shows up, jason loses the rest of the robins. and signal. and any other bat that shows up. )

[torchbearer]

[ kyle highly doubts that. the robins are very loyal to bruce, but they rarely function as people who just . . . fall in line, even for bruce. but this is something jason has to untangle. no amount of telling will make that happen. ]

We'll worry about it when it happens.
