It's still chilly this early in the spring, especially in the shady wooded venu, but with many of the trees in bloom and lights hung among their boughs, it's quite pretty.

A few seats in the front row are occupied by objects rather than people: Thor's axe Stormbreaker, a handwritten book of faerie tales, and a book titled What Is Mako? by one Gast Faremis.

Eros, god of love, stands ready to perform the ceremony.

The men in question have yet to arrive. Their plan is to come together. Eventually, soft piano music fills the air, ethereal and mysterious. Sephiroth and Loki enter the glade, hands clasped as they slowly walk the aisle. Loki is dressed in a dark green dress, lined with silver trimmings. He’s even traded his gold helm for a silver circlet, but it has small horns attached to the front. Sephiroth wears a simpler black suit, but his hair is pulled back into a series of intricate braids.

Is that Lady Gaga you hear? Well, not quite. It's the local Lady Gaga cover band, but they're pretty good, right?

There is a dance floor for those who are so inclined, and a generous refreshments table for those who might not be. Loki has splurged on all kinds of appetisers and snacks to satisfy the pickiest eaters. There might be things that you’ve never seen on Earth such as edible gold and stardust or mead that is reminiscent of the past. A chocolate fountain features in its center.

Loki has also left little gifts for the attendees. A little snow globe. If shaken, it’ll show the recipient a fond memory.

I. Reception

[It was a lovely wedding ceremony, Mayuko had to admit. The outdoor setting, the grooms' vows--different than the few she had attended back home, but heartfelt. That was what mattered.

Now, at the reception, the majority of the guests have gathered. The RSVPs were a bit more rigid than the ecstatic free-for-alls enjoyed by the Sunset Falls masses, given Loki's position in town. There are still plenty of attendees from Sunset Falls--from city government higher-ups to Sephiroth's co-workers at the library.

Mayuko smooths her kimono, one of her splurges from her soul-searching trip to Japan. In addition to the grooms, she's on the lookout for Starfallen guests. Mostly to welcome them, partially to keep from having to talk politics with the locals tonight, and... well. The townfolk do love Starfallen but they also like picking off strangers for the seasonal human sacrifice? Better to keep a weather eye out for unsuspecting visitors.

Dancing might be a bit tricky, but she could be persuaded! Or catch her by the refreshments as she eyes the more exotic offerings.]

Any bets how the stardust is going to taste? I wonder if it's better than chocolate.


II. Snowglobe

[Later on, Mayuko can be found in a quiet corner of the reception hall. She needs a pause in the socializing, and examining what she thought was a trinket for the guests seems as fine an idea as any. The wedding favor, concealed in a simple velvet bag, has some weight to it. As she reveals a snowglobe, she laughs.]

Well, isn't this clever!

[She gives the globe a soft swirl and turns to the nearest guest.]

[It is of course a little hard to catch them apart from one another, but there is some appeal in getting to talk to other people about his husband(!). He'll catch up to Mayuko at the refreshments table, possibly while Loki is enjoying the chocolate fountain.]

I imagine Loki still prefers the chocolate, but it felt... appropriate.

I. Reception
As someone who has planned big parties and is working himself into the world of catering, David's clearly in awe of the place. In fact, he's more than in awe. The ceremony was beautiful and emotional and wonderful, but this? This he was allowed to interact with.

So here David was, cooing over appetizers and making pleased noises at other meals. Nothing quite having amazing nibbles and beautiful arrangements. At least he isn't taking a stupid amount of pictures, right?

And then there are the fond looks of happiness he kept sending to the happy couple. Finding happiness was nice, and he'd glad they had found that. This might not be his Loki, but he was glad a Loki could find happiness. And Sephiroth was a good and gentle man who deserved to find peace.

So he's not getting tearful over them. At all. Nope. Don't judge him. This mead is just divine. Share some with him, or call him on his nibbling, or his fond looks, or maybe his longing in other ways. Because clearly the guy's mind is elsewhere.

[David has to chuckle to himself, because yes, he is. He smiles more softly at the man and nods.]

I'm just so happy for you both. And I'm in awe of how... I don't want to call it storybook or fairy tale, but there's a very ethereal beauty to the arrangements here. It's breathtaking. Just... it's so nice.

Sephiroth may be quite caught up in his new husband, but he does eventually notice the looks David has been giving them. He did see something in his research about people crying at weddings. That doesn't mean he understands it.

"...are you quite all right?"

Sephiroth isn't even the first groom to call David on his mood. He smiles at the man and lets himself look around.

"It's so beautiful here. You two put something great together. But your joy is... it's so contagious that I'm just crying at the happiness of it all."

I. The Wedding Photographer

Mark was well dressed, of course, but his outfit wasn't about standing out. It was about looking just good enough to blend in. What matters is the cameras on Mark. Not one. Two. Three. A camera for close ups. A camera for wide shots. A camera for things in between. Better than having to change lenses and missing a chance at something good.

For now he's coming up to different tables in the time before too many speeches or dancing.

"Picture so the happy couple can remember your presence on this magical day?" he suggests, holding up one of the cameras with a smile.


II. Snack Time

Even the help needs a moment or two for a break. Mark was taking his own at a small table with his cameras on a seat on one side, his 'meal' before him. Most everyone else has eaten and is mingling, and he's stealing his own break in the form of a selection of appetizers and canapes that had been set aside for him.

And with his bit of a break before the meal to get running, Mark is happily enjoying his nibbles and water.

Which of course means it's the perfect time to come say hello. Mark smiles at being approached and nods.

"If you want a picture I need, like, twenty minutes? Otherwise, pull up a seat?"

Grabbing a few bites. In about another ten minutes I'm going to be back up and taking more pictures. Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever worked, boss. And you look like a dream. Do all gods dress like that at weddings? It's really nice!

Sephiroth has had to make a small effort not to avoid the cameras, as he was wont to whenever forced to attend some Shinra event. This day is one he wanted, and one he wants to remember.

He'll even come up to Mark between tables, curious about how many cameras actually seem to be involved in this.

Something's... not quite right, after the bouquet toss. Mayuko cannot put her finger on exactly what. There was some jostling for position among the participants, but nothing that would point to sudden aches. Maybe it's for the best she take refreshment and sit out some dances. She takes a seat with a smile.

"You've been going all out today, take your time."

01. Before/During the Ceremony
[ It's not as if Dylan's never been to a wedding before. He'd attended many Catholic weddings back home, and those were long, drawn-out affairs that he hadn't paid much attention to. This time, though, he's watching a friend get married. He's decked out in a suit he used his powers to customize and, after some mingling, sits on Sephiroth's side of the audience. Unlike the other weddings he's attended, he listens intently to the vows as they're spoken.

When we met, I saw so much of myself in you. Your loneliness, your difficulty. The world must have seemed so small for you.

Why was that hitting him so hard? Why did it feel like those words were trying to yank his heart out of his chest? His eyes sting a little, remembering how he'd looked at Hunter the same way. He tries to discreetly blink the tears away and maintain a smile as he watches. ]

02. Reception
[ Dylan had forgotten how nice it is to get out and socialize. He'd been sick for a couple months, and then after so many people left, he just felt like shutting himself away. Didn't even hang out at The Descendant as often as he used to.

But being here around people and mingling is definitely helping his mood.

At least until he shakes his souvenir snow globe, seeing a memory of the family he'd built over the course of 2022, when he'd still had Dad and V around. He tears up again and sets it down, taking a second to calm himself before getting back to the dance floor and trying to have a happier day. ]

[In Mayuko's experience, weddings are chock full of complicated emotions for everyone. She had sat through her best friend's wedding and reception, supporting her on that special day while feeling her own heart break repeatedly.

She catches a brief glimpse of Dylan's struggle and nudges a handkerchief over. Just in case.]
