[Things have been a little shaky between them of late, but as they promised at the start, they are working to mend it. This relationship, whatever anyone might want to call it, has lasted a full year. It's an achievement that Sephiroth would not have thought himself capable of... connecting with someone, and holding onto that connection.

That seems worthy of acknowledgement, even celebration. Perhaps especially because of Loki's recent doubts, Sephiroth has taken it upon himself to create a memorable evening.

Or at least try to? He does not have Loki's dramatic flair. He does, however, arrive at Loki's door with a bouquet he chose himself after researching flower meanings, because research he can do.]

[Finished with his meal, he settles his utensils across the plate. He pauses, considering.]

...there are a few things I would ask, about that illusory life. If it's all right.

...why "Luke"?

[ loki blinks. that's not a question he expected. ]

I assume it was picked because it's human-sounding. And Luke is close to Luka and Loki. It's a close sounding variant of my name.

I suppose it just seems strange, considering I kept my name.

The dream seemed to be arbitrary. And perhaps Loki wasn't the most auspicious name for a happy couple.

Do you know what the meaning of the word is?

I didn't realize it had one.

[ he sips his wine glass. ]

It means "to break".

Does "Luke" have a meaning?

[ loki shrugs as if to say, what else is new?. ]

Luke means light-bringer.

[Sephiroth shrugs.]

It's pleasant, I suppose, in an ordinary sort of way.

It's just a name, at any rate. I have no feelings for it.

And for "Loki"?

[Maybe it was an arbitrary change, but part of him wonders if it was driven somehow by Loki's feelings for it. Or maybe for himself?]

[ he smiles faintly. ]

I may not care much for Loki, but I am Loki. I won't give that up, not for anyone or anything.

And your alter ego... Do you enjoy those sorts of performances?

It's an engaging method of self-expression. And my gender is fluid, so it suits me to be whatever I like in the moment.

This is my preferred form, but I can take on whichever I feel like. And it's not always about changing shape. It's how I feel inside.
