( voice soft, and he leans in towards kyle. bumps his shoulder against the other's own, head tipping so he's facing him. )

( jason returns the grin easily, and leans into kyle. )

[ kyle chuckles, pressing a kiss to his cheek. ]

( there's the faintest flush to the tips of jason's ears when kyle leans in, but jason's not protesting any. instead, he's gesturing down to the ruffians below them. )

[ he shakes his head. with the power he's got, it'd be overkill. and kyle doesn't like to do that. ]

( with a downright feral grin thrown over his shoulder, before jason's grabbing onto his grapple gun and--making his way on down. his voice lowers as soon as he reaches the ground, takes on that gravely tone that bruce is well-known for. but despite working to intimidate the idiots causing trouble on the streets--when he does have to fight a few of them who decide that three against one are great odds for them, jason plays gently. or, gently by his standards. they're untrained, he knows his shit better than them, and he's not out to fuck over a bunch of hooligans being stupid.

just scare them a lot.

once three of them are on the ground groaning spitting out insults, jason's half-turning back towards the rooftop he'd left kyle on. throws up a wide grin when he knows they aren't paying attention, and--saunters his way on forward. kicks one of them in the ribcage on his way out of the alleyway. just in case they thought they were getting out of this easy. )

[ kyle grins, eyeing the carnage. ]

( see it's funny, because damian could destroy jason if he really wanted to. )

There is no way you can pummel that Vegeta knockoff that easily.

( that gets a laugh out of him. it's loud, boisterous, enough that it echoes off the alley walls as jason keeps on walking. )

[ kyle grins. ]

Figured out a while ago that the only way to win against the rest of the crew is to just not fight 'em at all.

( because fighting is a lose-lose scenario. either jsaon gets pissed and goes too far, or one of them does, or they both end up covered in bruises. doesn't mean he won't for fun still, but - serious brawls are reserved for people who aren't considered family. )

[ if there's any group that's fight-happy, it's probably the bat group. ]

( he avoids fighting damian. usually. hell, he's let damian throw hits at him endlessly while jason just took it because he knew the kid needed an outlet. didn't fight back until damian started intentionally trying to piss him off, until he found a weakness and dug his fingers in until jason snapped. )

Known that for, ( a hand raises, gestures outward in an almost-shrug. ) years? Years. Figured it out probably a little bit before we met.

[ kyle seemingly takes jason in now. something seems to nag at him. ]

( there are dozens of ways he can answer that. is he alright? he's fine, by his standards. nothing's broken, he's not bleeding anywhere, he's slept a bit, so jason's not walking around in the dead of night with the bone-deep exhaustion he's known to associate with overworking. for jason, he's doing just swell. but jason's standards are also fucked.

so he keeps on going. steps up onto a milk crate close by and uses it as leverage to jump up and grab onto the fire escape of the closest building. )

'm alright.

( boot shoving off the wall, and he's shoving his knife into a crease in the wall. uses it as a boost to get himself up a little higher. don't mind him, he'll get onto the roof all by himself. )

Kinda went back home for a bit. Hard to explain. Harper died, Alfred died, I an' everyone else got killed by a bunch of sadistic Robin knock-offs following a Jokerized Batman. B got hold of a Black Lantern ring, spent a bit of time as a living corpse - wouldn't recommend it. World got fucked over, world got fixed, ( another knife, which also gets shoved into the wall. jason puts his weight on that one while he pulls out the other, ) Harper came back from the dead, Al didn't. Lot of other fucked up shit happened, but, y'know, normal shit by our standards.

[ oh. that is a lot. especially . . . alfred. that must have been a blow. kyle never interacted with the butler himself, but he's been there. he knows. but he also doesn't so he gives jason his space. for now. ]

( the mask covers his eyes, but it doesn't quite hide the way he's raising a brow under it, lips twisted into something more confused than anything else. bewildered, because - )

[ he expected the answer to be a no, but still. though he suspects that alfred is still alive in whatever timeline the others reside in. he floats up to where jason was. ]

( the knife he'd pulled out of the wall goes back into his belt, and jason--pulls himself up onto the roof easily, and back up onto his feet. )

( even worse, is the shit he has to take a breath through before he lets it out, )

They knew before an' didn't say jack shit. They knew we were from the same place, that I was behind, they knew all about the bullshit that was coming, and no one thought to give me a heads up.
