[It’s taken some planning but tonight, Jason and Accelerator are in Excelsior and on a Society assignment to steal something for the Baron. They had done recon the previous night to get an idea of what the new space exhibit’s security is like. The tech and the guards are more advanced than typical museum security but that wasn’t very surprising given the city they’re in. Ultimately, the duo concluded that it was feasible to steal the Canem Sibilus.

Jason’s up on a dark rooftop across from the space exhibit. It’s nearly time for it to close. He’s dressed in his Red Hood gear as he calmly waits for Accelerator to arrive]

[Accelerator is a long way from the broken security camera by the time the guards get there. He doesn't have a lot of time, but he's been observant and those gears in his brain are turning and when he enters another exhibit hall he goes for distraction number two.

Suspended from the ceiling are several fake meteors. They aren't nearly as big as the ship out in the main atrium, and unlike a proper exhibit case it's unlikely they're connected to any kind of security system.

So, using his ability again, he taps the wall, amplifying and directing the reverberation up to the ceiling, crushing the joists the bolts are screwed into, and sending one of the meteors crashing to the floor.]

[Meanwhile on the other side of the building, Jason’s camped in the shadow of another column. He hears multiple radios from several nearby guards alerting them that an exhibit has suddenly collapsed.

Jason waits for the guards to jog away from his area before trying to move again and speaking into his comm]

Get ready to have an exit.

[Accelerator is booking it out of that exhibit room as soon as he can, relying on his ability for speed and, when the ceiling is high enough, manipulating gravity. It means running his battery down, but he just doesn't have the dexterity on his own and this is better than getting caught.]

Okay, looking for one now.

[Downsides to museums? They don't have a lot of windows.]

[Jason finally reaches the exhibit hall containing the apparently very important dog whistle. It’s in a glass display case towards the back of the room. From the shadows, he looks at it and thinks about how to do grab it. There’s doing a brute force snatch and grab or the more cautious approach by taking more time with fiddling the security. It all depends on how much time they have left and the guards positions]

How’s it looking for you? You still got enough power?

[While Jason approaches the whistle he's going to keep on hunting for an exit. Unfortunately, he isn't having a lot of luck, so when that voice comes through the comm he frowns to himself.]

I'm fine.

[His battery is slowly running down and he's acutely aware of that, but he doesn't want to tell Jason he's in trouble. He isn't. He'll figure this out.]

I'm going back to the atrium.

[Jason is concerned but for now, he’ll have trust that Accelerator is keeping track of his own stamina. Jason takes out a glass cutter tool and starts to work on the display case]

Alright. Leave the building if you can. Don’t worry about me.

[Jason trusts his own speed and stamina in helping him get out in time]

[Accelerator hesitates, wanting to argue. They're working on this together, so he should at least make sure Jason gets out alive and not arrested, too.

... Then he pauses, realizing this is the exact opposite route GROUP had taken while working together. With them it was every person for themselves, and if someone got captured or left behind (like Unabara did, once) then it was on them to get themselves out of the situation. No one else from GROUP would lift a finger to help.

(Obviously, the reason for this is that he likes Jason. With Musujime, Unabara and Tsuchimikado they were all being forced to work together, and they could barely tolerate one another. But admitting this is the reason, even if it's only to himself, is a little too much for Accelerator.)

He decides this isn't the time to argue and besides, Jason can take care of himself. Still, he clicks his tongue as he makes his way back to the atrium, easily manipulating some gravitational vectors to get back up to the open window.]

Fine. I'll wait outside.

[There's a hole in the glass now. Next, Jason takes out pliers and a pair of wire cutters. He begins to manipulate part of the security system the exhibit is hooked up to]

I'll be there soon. You can be lookout if you want.

[He absolutely wants to be on the lookout. If the cops show up too soon, or some superhero is in the vicinity he doesn't want to leave Jason on his own. They're -- well, maybe not partners. Coworkers? Coworkers.]

I might as well.

[He climbs on out, and proceeds to take a perch that offers him a good view of the surrounding buildings as well as the main road, then switches his choker back to normal.]

I'm on the roof.

Don’t push yourself too hard.

[Though he ultimately trusts Accelerator to monitor himself, part of Jason still can’t help but worry. It’s almost like the same kind of worry he has about Dylan, Nico, or Tim. All of them capable of taking care of themselves but still young enough that Jason feels like he’s responsible for them whenever he’s with any of them.

Once the wires have been manipulated enough, Jason quickly slips his hand though the glass and takes the dog whistle. He slips it in a pouch and ties it shut]

We’re good here now. Can you make it to the south exit?

[This seems almost too easy…]

I'll be fine.

[He isn't overly annoyed that Jason is being so cautious with him, even though he supposes he should be. Either let him do this or don't take him out on crimes, right?

Except Jason's reminding him a little of Yomikawa and, well. The older Jason. How they both treat him like a child even though given the things he's done they shouldn't. It isn't rational that he doesn't mind this behaviour, he knows that.

He starts making his way over to the south side of the building.]

Yeah. I'll make sure it's clear for you.

Thanks.

[Jason makes his way to the south side of the building. He’s hoping enough guards and drones have been distracted by the other side that it’ll be a relatively clear exit for him]

[Accelerator perches himself on the edge of the roof by the south exit, looking around for any kind of security. There are one or two cameras, he notes, and he holds back on destroying them. That'll likely draw attention, so he wants to wait until Jason is about to leave to be cautious.

Crouching down, he grabs a couple of stray rocks and speaks into his comm link.]

Let me know when you're close.

Just a couple of—-

[Jason suddenly stops and retreats to around a corner as a lone drone hovers around. He silently listens to what direction it’s going before speaking again]

Incoming drone your way.

[A drone? Accelerator clicks his tongue in irritation. Those things remind him of Academy City.]

If that fucking thing comes outside I'm gonna destroy it. There are some cameras outside too, so you better get ready to move, because those bastards are going to notice.

[Sure, there's a door blocking the drone's way, but this is Excelsior. There's no way they haven't programmed that thing with a practical robotic arm to perform basic functions like opening doors.]

[Jason softly swears as he hears more humming]

I think there’s a second one nearby. I’m ready to shoot my way out.

[And indeed, these shiny new drones are capable of opening doors. Evidently one’s ready to check around the perimeter and not just stay indoors]

Hmm.

[... Well, if he's going to do something flashy and obvious like using his guns....]

Okay.

[Accelerator doesn't offer up any more than that. He probably should, but he doesn't think it's necessary. His eyes focus down on the door below and he reaches up with his free hand to his choker, waiting for the drone inside to push the door open. With a low hum, it does, and floats outside.

He switches modes and, instead of the less destructive, stealthier option of just taking out the drone and cameras with the rocks, he brings his fist down onto the wall. There isn't much strength behind it, but altering some vectors downwards is more than enough. Massive cracks snake downwards all the way to the door and there's a massive BOOM! as the entire wall is blown outwards. The drone and cameras are all smashed in the explosion, and while it sets off some alarms in the building it's also leaving behind a big fog of plaster and dust -- some good impromptu cover for Jason while he escapes.]

[At almost the same time, Jason shoots down the drone closest to him. Alarms screech when Accelerator takes down the wall and Jason takes it as his signal to run. He’s picked up that the fog of dust and plaster is his cover while he flees. Security is heading towards him and Accelerator fast.

He soon makes it outside]

I think someone’s gonna be happy. Come on.

[Accelerator waits up there until he picks up on the soundwaves of Jason's footsteps approaching the broken wall. He can tell security is on his tail, so once he sees him through the haze he'll manipulate some air molecules and sent a windy burst beneath Jason to launch him back up to the roof. That'll be a faster getaway than running through the alleys, and he's running low on battery.]

Great, a happy dog. Lucky us.

[He is not an animal person.]

[Jason rides with the air burst and lands on the rooftop with a roll before springing back up]

There better be decent favors for us after all this. How're you feeling?

[Inwardly, Accelerator thinks that is a very cool move. Outwardly, however, he's all business. Especially with that question.]

We need to go.

[It's not an I'm not fine because he'd never say that out loud, but his battery is running low and he doesn't want to collapse while they're still on some roof.]

[Jason nods and takes out his grapple gun. He had parked his motorcycle not too far from the building]

Ready to hold on?

[He wants to say no, but it's more practical to not waste any more battery when he doesn't need to.]

..... Fine.

[Still, he's scowling a little as he grabs onto Jason.]

[Once Accelerator holds onto him, Jason fires his grappling hook to the next building and zips towards it.

He doesn't normally have someone with him when he's rooftop jumping but after what he and Accelerator just did, it's necessary.

The process is repeated for several more buildings before Jason stops. He withdraws his hook]

Down the fire escape. Bike's parked there.

[Accelerator isn't exactly thrilled he's having to rely on Jason for this, but he keeps quiet about it. Now isn't the time to be stubborn.

... Still, as soon as Jason gets them over a few rooftops he's letting go and heading for the fire escape. Sirens can be heard in the distance, in the direction of the museum.]

Sounds like our timing is good.

[For this he's switching his choker on and just hopping off the roof. It's fine, it's only a couple seconds to get down to the ground, and once he's down there he's switching back.]
