[ Much like Loki's last party-venture, this is set up very much in the same vein. a large ballroom for dancing needs. Tables and waiters passing around hors d'oeuvres and drinks. At the entrance of the ball room, there’s a fancy mask waiting for you if you don’t have one already. There’s a strict dress code for the event this time and Loki expects everyone to dress accordingly.

The masks also have a spell attached to them. They’ll afford you complete privacy. No one will recognize you under the mask. Unless, of course, you take it off and let them know. Perfect for the party guest who may want to indulge without causing a fuss. Hit up a partner and see where the evening takes you.

This event wouldn’t be complete without candy, of course. There are candies arranged on the tables in all types and colors. In front of them is a small description regarding each kind of candy. Be sure to read them carefully, as Loki has added a little . . . extra to the sweets, to give them a little . . . zing. ]

So I'm not the only fan of the steampunk vibe.

[The man coming up beside Jason while he considers chocolates smiles under his mask at the other man. That said, between his coat, hat, and cane, he didn't pull it off as well as Jason. Especially since his mask is one of the plainer ones provided by the host.

Honestly, Mark had been compelled to the color scheme, and steam-punk apparently didn't overflow with silver as an access when there was brass to work with. Oh well.]

Yup. Not really a fan of "traditional" fancy so I figured to go a little different.

[Damn right it's a nice hat. Mark takes it off briefly and he considers the weight of it for a moment.]

Wonder if I can still...

[He had some practice of fancy displays with them from musical theater in high school, and after a moment he did some fancy spinning, flipping, and rolling of it over his arm and around his hands before flipping it onto his head. Then he winced.]

Ouch, the weight is not right for that. I don't recommend it.

Yeah, so far tonight's been nice. Our host's certainly got a flair for the ornate.

[Mark looks longingly after the waiter, but doesn't reach. Self control, man. Just exert it.]

I mean, he's supposed to be a god, right? And that makes it make sense that he's got things extravagant.

He's a god of mischief too so it feels especially appropriate to do a Halloween gala.

You know, I guess you're not wrong about that. Though I didn't think the Norse did Halloween.

Me neither but I guess it's as good of an excuse as any to have a party. Better that than to hear more anti-meta crap.

Yeah, people have been... well, really bad about this. I mean, I get being a little scared, but Metas are out there trying to help people. Usually.

Yeah. The problem is it's easier to be angry at someone than to deal with being afraid of something that seems uncontrollable and a lot less known.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I've been through enough shit because of fear of people like us. It's so fucked up. Not like all of us even want what we have.

[Jason nods in sympathy as he eats the white chocolate]

Yeah. We're all just trying to live our lives here.

Or at least what lives we can find and allow ourselves?

Yeah. It'd be miserable to always have to hide. You've been in Central long?

Oh I know how bad it is to always hide. I’ve been doing it since I got here in June.

[His smile is small and sad, but it’s what it is.]

Oh, so very very much. In my world, people with powers aren’t common. Imagine how the government reacts to people who are born genetically able to do interesting things. There’s a whole secret government department for addressing our existence.

You mean to keep track of you and keeping an eye out for trouble or for new weapons.

They kept ‘track’ of some people. Those who were more interesting, or whose powers could stand ‘deeper’ study, we got ‘invited’ to stick around for a while.

[Jason shakes his head, sympathetic]

Was it a nasty surprise when you got dropped here then?

I mean, it was nasty to be here instead of home. But like most things, it’s complicated, and I have complicated feelings about it. I have family back home after all. But I’m safer here, strangely enough.

Bingo. It's sorta hard back home, when we're this big giant secret, keeping yourself hidden. And since I'm a power mimic, it's harder for me. Because I don't always know when I'm going to get accidentally near a random person with abilities and accidentally do something. In elementary school I once punched a bully. Sent him flying. I didn't even understand.
