After deciding to do some snooping around Arcadia and dragging in Roy after his arrival, Jason and Roy both ended up knocked out, pulled out of Arcadia, and dropped off on an island off of Washington with a facility on it built to hold metahumans. Fun! Except they're both drowsy and depowered, stuck in cells, and aside from Jason's neural implant, they don't have a way to reach out to others from inside. But hey, at least the guards haven't seen their faces, so it could be worse.

[ it's such a jason response that the corner of his eyes crinkle. ]

You don't want to be fussed over, a little? Because I won't be spoiling you for a bit until we have a proper date.

[reneger]

Have I ever come across as wanting to be fussed over?

( there's a small, barely-there grin curling up the corners of his lips, visible for barely a moment before jason's shoving the bag back down over his face. )

I've gotta redo my gear before going back out. ( which is clearly relevant to the date comment, right. ) So you'll have to wait a bit.

[ kyle adjusts the bag gently for him and combs some of jason's hair back. ]

I'm just saying. Opportunities like this don't come by often.

[reneger]

This is my--third? Fourth? Prison break.

( it says a lot: how jason doesn't smack his hand away. how he doesn't tense up like he's readying for a fight, or bother uncovering his eyes. )

And at least the sixth time someone's broken my nose. So I don't know what rare opportunity you're talking about.

[ kyle rolls his eyes. ]

I meant opportunities where you had someone with you.

[reneger]

( that makes more sense. jason hasn't been alone alone in a while, a feeling he's mostly adjusted to. but piecing himself back together is usually reserved as a jason-only activity, with very few bystanders permitted to join in.

he pulls himself up, frozen peas falling down onto the floor, and--gestures back to the cushion he'd freed up behind him. )

If you're gonna loom, you may as well sit. Your first aid training cover resetting broken noses?

[torchbearer]

[ dryly. ]

Yeah, sure. It happens to all the art students.

Can you walk me though it?

[reneger]

Man, space ranger school really didn't do you any favors.

( he knows kyle's whole thing, but that doesn't mean he can't find ways to mock his lack of helpful skills. jason swings his legs around so he's sitting on the couch the way people are supposed to, and tips his head up towards kyle. )

Cartilage is out of place. ( jason's nose is usually some level of crooked, the swelling doesn't make it that obvious he still hasn't gotten around to fixing it. ) Usually I'd grab a screw driver and a spare set of hands. Shove the screwdriver in and keep it pressed tight against the septum, up to where the break is. Use fingers to realign the cartilage from the outside. Easy peasy.

[ kyle makes a face. ]

None of that sounds easy . . . but if you want, I'll give it a shot.

[reneger]

Gotta do it to learn how to do it, right?

( another pat to the couch, beside him, before jason pulls himself up to his feet. to grab a screwdriver from the kitchen. )

Sit. I'll help you through it.

[torchbearer]

You better otherwise you might need a nose job.

[ but he'll do it. can't hurt to learn. ]

[reneger]

Can't fuck it up any worse than it already is, don't worry about it.

( screwdriver retrieved, and jason takes a moment to clean it with dish soap. for sanitary purposes. )

[torchbearer]

[ he grumbles. ]

Don't tell me not to worry.

[reneger]

You wanna stand or sit?

( important first step to figure out. )

If you're sitting, sit. If you're not, I'll get up on the counter.

[torchbearer]

I'll sit.

[ it seems easier that way. more grounded. ]

[reneger]

Then sit.

( free hand shoving at kyle to get him down onto the couch, before jason holds out the screwdriver, handle first. )

If you're gonna stick 'round us squishy earthlings, this'll come in handy. Tim and Dick've both smashed theirs several times, and, well. ( clearly jason's nose hasn't exactly remained unbroken either. )

You know, first aid never really covered broken noses.

[ but he prepares himself, intent. ]

[reneger]

Well, it should.

( kyle is down, so jason goes down in front of him. scoots in closer until he's between kyle's legs. leans his head back so it's resting on a thigh.

and closes his eyes. )

Go for it.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle sighs, but his brow furrows determined and he executes what jason told him in a smooth motion before pulling back. ]

[reneger]

( it hurts, as evident by the way jason winces. but he doesn't jerk away, doesn't move enough to fuck kyle over. it makes a gross noise as it slides into place, and jason scrunches his nose when it's done. which just makes it hurt worse. oops. )

Ow.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle nearly jerks before relaxing, his fingers running over jason's cheeks. kyle likes looking after people. he thrives in it, but this is a first. mostly because —

he puts it out of mind. ]

Want me to go grab the bag again?

[reneger]

( jason relaxes into it. he's not the relaxing sort, doesn't usually let his guard down when he's alone, let alone in front of someone. but kyle is an entire battalion all on his own, and not even jason can break through the security on the tower despite his numerous attempts. it's safe enough here; he trusts kyke to keep them from keeling over if anything did happen. )

Nah. I'll get it later.

[torchbearer]

Okay.

[ he presses a light kiss to his forehead. ]

You realize this means no date nights for a while. Are they gunning for you? I can tear the whole place down if I need to.

[reneger]

It's hot when you threaten to destroy shit for me.

( there's a very small grin that curls up just the corners of his lips; his face still hurts, there's no need to irritate it further. )

They'll be looking for Heron, not--whoever else I decide to be. ( he hasn't been jason out in public here, just jace and mal. but they didn't pull off his mask far as he can remember, didn't try and get anything out of him either. ) And as hot as it'd be if you did tear everything down, that's not gonna fix any of this. We need them to tear themselves down.

[ how sensible. the corner of his lips tug at that. ]
