[Today is both Tim Drakes' birthday. In honor of this, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is closed for the night for a "private event."

On the ground floor where the bar is and where there's the most open space, most of the tables and chairs have been pushed aside while some have been rearranged to accommodate the party. A taco bar is lined up on one side. Hard and soft shells are available, along with a variety of fillings people can choose to make their own tacos.

A projector screen has been set up in front of the bar, alongside a laptop loaded with a movie library.

The birthday cake is a coffee and chocolate ice cream cake with vanilla frosting. It's safely stashed in the kitchen's fridge until it's time for dessert.

Though this family is absolutely dysfunctional and its members don't all come from the same universe or timeline, they're going to make sure two family members have a good birthday party today. Jackass guilds be damned]

[ the hot and cold approach. okay. he'll wait for jason's cue. ]

You want to head up?

[reneger]

Next time if I grab for the bottle tell me to fuck off.

( because while kyle is a great transport option, he still doesn't want to go home while mildly inebriated. not with where he's at now, even if jason's not so far gone he can't fake it. he reaches into his jacket, and pulls out his grapple gun. it takes him just a moment longer than usual to steady his aim, but he's getting it without any outside help, thanks, just like he's using the velocity of the line pulling up to pull himself right up onto the roof without any help. )

[torchbearer]

Like you'd listen to me.

[ he flies up to the roof. his gaze shifts to the stars. when he was young, his mother would take him outside and teach him every constellation. just sitting there and talking. he turns his gaze back at jason. ]

Are you all right?

[reneger]

I'm good.

( he is now, after having a few deeper than intended conversations with junior and mostly unintentionally pissing off bruce.

it's a good several steps away from the ledge where jason drops himself down to sit. yanks on kyle to get him to sit down next to him. )

An' maybe if you tried harder to be convicing, I'd listen.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle relaxes, settling against jason. maybe he just needed a break from it all. who could blame him? ]

Oh yeah? And how am I supposed to do that?

[reneger]

If you can't figure it out on your own, I'm not gonna help you.

( he likes to watch kyle work for it. but jason doesn't make it too hard now, leaning into him a little after he settles. )

[torchbearer]

Ah, so it's a challenge.

[ typical. but that's the kind of stuff kyle likes anyway. ]

[reneger]

If you liked it easy, you wouldn't be here.

( on a rooftop of a bar with jason todd, when inside the bar below is significantly too many robins, associated gothamites, and their friends. but he mostly means the rooftop bit. mostly.

jason clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth. looks over towards the next building just across the street. )

's not a table, but I bet I could throw you hard enough to dent that sedan.

( the one that's parked just off the edge of the sidewalk, in perfect throwing distance. jason can't see it from here, but he saw it before he sat down. )

[torchbearer]

And this is your idea of foreplay?

[ kyle tries to see if he can spot the offensive sedan. ]

Also what did that car ever do to you?

[reneger]

It has a tire up on the sidewalk.

( bad parking is a crime against everyone. but he's turning into kyle, raising a hand to--comb fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck. leans in just a little closer with a grin curling up the corners of his lips. )

If it was my idea of foreplay, there wouldn't be any question to it. You'll know.

[torchbearer]

[ oh, that feels really nice and his gaze goes lidded. ]

I guess I'll take your word for it.

[reneger]

( weakness spotted, he'll take advantage more when they're not in robin-territory, but for now, he pulls kyle in against his shoulder, keeps brushing fingers through his hair, just above his ear. )

Or you could give me twenty minutes to breathe in some shitty polluted but still better than Gotham's fresh air, fly us back to your place, an' I could show you.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle grins, the light in his eyes as he reaches for jason's hand, tugging him onto his feet. with a wave of his hand, he creates a construct of aladdin's magic carpet. ]

Show me the world. Shining, shimmering, splendid.

[reneger]

( he lets kyle pull him up to his feet, even after he makes the stupid carpet. the carpet is forgivable, the lyrics are too much. )

See? I told you. Nerd.

( which is kyle's warning, before jason's raising a leg to kick him right off the roof. )

[torchbearer]

You recognized it though!

[ he dodges it, but only just barely because he's laughing. ]

[reneger]

I grew up on the streets not under a rock, Rayner.

( there's a feral grin on jason's lips as he takes a step into kyle to try and lead him off the edge by swinging a fist, leaving his only dodging options at either walking closer to the edge, or physically blocking it. he's--holding back laughter, and a little slower than usual. the liquor doesn't make keeping his stance smooth any easier. )

[torchbearer]

So how does the next line go?

[ kyle weaves closer to the edge, still laughing. ]

[reneger]

I recognized it, I don't know it that well.

( kyle weaves, and jason presses in closer. blocks kyle off from getting further on to the roof to keep him close to the edge, and throws another punch, straight for his stupid face. )

[torchbearer]

[ the blow glances off his face and he stumbles close to the edge. ]

[reneger]

( an unexpected turn of events, and one that shows because jason does stop for a moment. he hadn't expected the blow to actually hit, kyle's got plenty of power to stop a hit from landing when he doesn't want it to, as long as he's conscious.

but it only earns that momentary pause. because kyle's stumbling and jason's going to take advantage of it--ramming straight into him to try and throw them both off the roof. )

[torchbearer]

[ he's pretty sure this is a terrible move and if it was anyone else, this would end poorly. kyle has fallen before. falling is a part of the job. he hasn't fallen in ages. not since he became ion. not since he left earth. for a moment, he wants to give into it. falling forever. bend all reality to that single moment. it was tempting. it was desperate.

he lets it go. he can't, not yet. not today.

the carpet comes from under them, catching them both. ]

[reneger]

( it's a moment longer than it should have taken for kyle to catch up. a moment in time of which jason almost reaches for his grapple, arm gripping onto kyle tight not because he doesn't think kyle won't catch him if they fall, but because it's a moment in time that kyle falters, and jason doesn't like it.

the absolutely stupid carpet floats it's way under them, and jason's quickly pulling his knees up under him. reaches to grab onto a fistful of kyle's hair, but it's not the gentle, soft touch of before. it's trying to yank it to angle kyle's head up to look at him. )

You let me hit you. ( not particularly hard. it only barely got kyle, but jason's counting it anyway. ) Where's your head at?

[torchbearer]

[ kyle shrugs, not bothered by the pull. he was playing it a little too close. ]

Why would I put up a shield around you?

[reneger]

I threatened to throw you off a roof. I've threatened to break your face at least half a dozen times in the last - ( how many months has it been? ) five months.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle swats his shoulder lightly. ]

I know. I was there. What's your point?
