Here I thought maybe you enjoyed my company if you were initiating seeing me again.

[ loki gives a soft hum. ]

I'm not much for companionship these days. Too much effort for people who will depart in a heartbeat.

Not Sephiroth, though. It's good you have one another.

[ his expression softens a little. ]

We've been fortunate. And we've known each other long enough.

I sincerely feel you are the only couple I know who would rip dimensions open to get back to one another.

[ he and David would try, but they'd be more worried about the collateral he suspects. also Loki and Sephiroth could do it ]

[ loki huffs, good natured. ]

I think that is more testament to our stubbornness than anything else.

Stubbornness is an excellent quality in courtship and love.

[ loki could see when stubbornness becomes problematic. when you dig your heels too hard. ]

I suppose we just found our way.

That's usually how it works. No one quite knows how though. Incredible, isn't it? Thousands of years, thousands of realities, and no one's cracked the code.

Come now. You've never wishes you had the answers when things were going roughly?

[ He laughs. ]

Maybe you really aren't like us mere mortals then.

Those were never the sort of answers I looked for, I suppose.

And did you find those? It's all the same at some level.

More or less. They came to me in time once I stopped expecting anyone else to have the answer.

Always the way it goes with the hard questions.

I've stopped asking. It's not worth it.

Not all questions are. I'm not sure we can entirely control our minds asking though.

Oh? And what do you ask yourself then?

[portolan]

[ He could lie, be coy. But he doesn't. He sighs instead, shrugging. ]

Does fate exist? Have I outrun it, or done exactly what I was always meant to do? If I was always worthy of love, then why was I treated so poorly? If I'm inherently not worthy of love, then when will my partner discover that and move on? Could I have saved my mother? Could I still, in another universe?

[ loki blinks. ]

That is . . . quite a lot.

[ He gives a weak smile. ]

Gets tiring.
