[It’s taken some planning but tonight, Jason and Accelerator are in Excelsior and on a Society assignment to steal something for the Baron. They had done recon the previous night to get an idea of what the new space exhibit’s security is like. The tech and the guards are more advanced than typical museum security but that wasn’t very surprising given the city they’re in. Ultimately, the duo concluded that it was feasible to steal the Canem Sibilus.

Jason’s up on a dark rooftop across from the space exhibit. It’s nearly time for it to close. He’s dressed in his Red Hood gear as he calmly waits for Accelerator to arrive]

[Aha, a hint of a pleased grin tilts Accelerator's lips upwards for a few moments. Cool.

He resumes following Jason, out of the atrium and into a hall. It's pretty quiet and empty, and since it's only a hall there are no exhibits. Nowhere to hide, but there also don't seem to be much in the way of security cameras.]

[Well that’s an easy decision to make. Once Jason sees there are no cameras around, he quickens his pace for the hallway.

As they walk though, there’s a faint electric hum nearby]

[Accelerator keeps up as best he can, while at the same time trying to keep the clacking from the feet of his crutch at a minimum. Thankfully the hall isn't anywhere as big as the atrium, so they don't have to worry about any echoing.

The hum catches his notice though, and he glances up at Jason warily.]

[robintohood]

Sounds like we’re getting closer.

[They reach the end of the hallway to a large room displaying pieces of meteorite and moon rocks. There’s also a model of the moon hanging from the ceiling and one wall displays a model of a moon crater.

The faint humming is apparently coming from the display cases]

More security. With any luck you might get to break some shit after all.

[levelshift]

Good.

[When they reach the exhibit room Accelerator pauses to look around. It is kind of cool, maybe he should come back here during business hours to look around.

Anyways, he squints and starts searching for any additional signs of security.]

Fucking finally.

[robintohood]

[Whatever the security system is on the display cases, it’s definitely causing the humming]

That flute should be a couple of rooms over and no more missing coffee cups around.

[levelshift]

Hm. [Accelerator still looks cautious.] Seems pretty easy, don't you think?

[robintohood]

Yeah. Too easy.

[Footsteps heading towards them can be heard. Jason then tugs on Accelerator’s arm so that they can duck behind one of the larger displays.

The two approaching guards are talking. One grumbles about having to “babysit the boss’s new toys” while the other points out that it’s a good thing the testing phase got pushed to tonight instead of next week. Earlier means they can get it over with sooner. Besides, the new drones seem easy enough to use so far, including the they’re using now.

A different hum begins to be audible as they walk and talk]

[Accelerator lets himself get tugged behind the exhibit, focusing on both hiding and keeping his balance. Once he's sure he's got his feet and his crutch underneath himself he listens to the guards.

Drones, huh? Those could prove to be a problem. He glances over at Jason as he waits for the guards to exit the hall, raising an eyebrow.]

[robintohood]

[Jason softly sighs. It seems that tonight’s theme is “dumb luck.” New drones arriving earlier than expected is a curveball, or several depending on how many drones there are.

Taking advantage of the guards being too busy talking to each other, Jason whispers to Accelerator]

Got anything to redirect the guards or drones? Otherwise, we might have to change plans.

[levelshift]

[It's an irritating roadblock, to be sure. He's quiet as he considers Jason's question, trying to remember that they're still trying to be stealthy.

After a moment, he whispers back.]

I've only got my gun. Otherwise, I'd need to be able to touch them to use my ability.

[Unless he pulls out his wings, but that isn't going to happen.]

[robintohood]

[Jason’s quiet as he thinks about what they can do. There’s two of them and they do have an option to consider…]

How much power you got left?

[levelshift]

[He gives a small shrug.]

Most of the thirty minutes. You got an idea?

[robintohood]

Remember how lesson one went?

[Jason pulls out a comm piece out of his jacket]

[levelshift]

[Ohhhh, okay. He nods slightly, watching.]

[robintohood]

[Jason offers the comm piece to Accelerator]

To stay in touch. We’ll temporarily split up. One of us will make a distraction big enough to get most of security’s attention. Make it look like something else is gonna get stolen. The other will snatch the dog whistle.

[levelshift]

[He takes the comm device, sticking it in his ear. Even though he's used to using his phone being from Academy City means he's pretty comfortable with something more techy.]

Got it. What do you want me to do?

[He can use his ability for either, so he'd rather follow Jason's direction here.]

[robintohood]

Distract. Doesn’t have to be a blowout but needs to be something to get a lot of security away from the target. Maybe hit two points of the building to make sure more move away.

[Jason also offers his spare grapple gun]

In case your battery’s low by the time you have to get away. We’ll meet at the teleporters when we’re both done.

[levelshift]

Alright.

[Accelerator blinks, looking down at the grapple gun, and takes it after a moment. He's never used one before but hey, no time like the present.

(Hopefully he won't have to. Realistically, he can't see himself having an easy time with it like Jason does.)

After taking it he gives a small nod, then turns and starts sneaking away. Two distractions, nothing huge. Probably nothing that sets off the alarms, either. He's debating his options as he gets further away from Jason and the target.]

[Jason goes in the opposite direction, towards their real target.

Meanwhile, humming continues in the background thanks to drones hovering around]

[levelshift]

[As Accelerator sneaks through the museum he considers his first distraction. It comes to him pretty easily as he ducks past a security camera.

Waiting until he gets pretty far away from the exhibit room their actual target is in, he briefly switches to esper move in order to snap off a door handle. Then, when he comes upon another security camera, he fires the handle at the camera, completely smashing it.

There. The guards patrolling might not notice immediately, but whoever is monitoring the cameras will, so that's distraction #1 down. He leaves as soon as he's done that, looking for distraction #2.]

[Meanwhile, Jason is slowly stalking towards their real target as he patiently waits for any sign of Accelerator’s distraction kicking in.

While hiding the shadow of a column, Jason hears the nearest guard’s radio. He’s being ordered to go check a broken camera and don’t forget to bring over the drone. Jason then waits until the guard’s footsteps and the drone’s humming moves towards Accelerator’s direction and away from him.

As soon as the coast is clear, Jason quickens his pace closer to their target]

[Accelerator is a long way from the broken security camera by the time the guards get there. He doesn't have a lot of time, but he's been observant and those gears in his brain are turning and when he enters another exhibit hall he goes for distraction number two.

Suspended from the ceiling are several fake meteors. They aren't nearly as big as the ship out in the main atrium, and unlike a proper exhibit case it's unlikely they're connected to any kind of security system.

So, using his ability again, he taps the wall, amplifying and directing the reverberation up to the ceiling, crushing the joists the bolts are screwed into, and sending one of the meteors crashing to the floor.]

[Meanwhile on the other side of the building, Jason’s camped in the shadow of another column. He hears multiple radios from several nearby guards alerting them that an exhibit has suddenly collapsed.

Jason waits for the guards to jog away from his area before trying to move again and speaking into his comm]

Get ready to have an exit.

[levelshift]

[Accelerator is booking it out of that exhibit room as soon as he can, relying on his ability for speed and, when the ceiling is high enough, manipulating gravity. It means running his battery down, but he just doesn't have the dexterity on his own and this is better than getting caught.]

Okay, looking for one now.

[Downsides to museums? They don't have a lot of windows.]
