[Today is both Tim Drakes' birthday. In honor of this, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is closed for the night for a "private event."

On the ground floor where the bar is and where there's the most open space, most of the tables and chairs have been pushed aside while some have been rearranged to accommodate the party. A taco bar is lined up on one side. Hard and soft shells are available, along with a variety of fillings people can choose to make their own tacos.

A projector screen has been set up in front of the bar, alongside a laptop loaded with a movie library.

The birthday cake is a coffee and chocolate ice cream cake with vanilla frosting. It's safely stashed in the kitchen's fridge until it's time for dessert.

Though this family is absolutely dysfunctional and its members don't all come from the same universe or timeline, they're going to make sure two family members have a good birthday party today. Jackass guilds be damned]

I think that goes under irresponsible use.

[ not that he uses it responsibly all of the time, but he's being petulant. ]

( is that responsible use, kyle. jason's grinning, and this time when he reaches a hand out, it's to brush fingers against kyle's neck.

kyle isn't subtle. junior already called it. fuck if he cares. )

Told you there's cover up for that, too.

[ kyle mutters: ]

You had it coming.

[ but he finds himself tilting his neck towards the touch with a soft sigh. it still sets his nerves alight. he spent so long in the vacuum of space, away from everything he knew. watching himself slip away. ]

And I know. I could, if I wanted to.

[ which says enough. ]

[reneger]

'cause you're a show off.

( his hand drops away after another moment, but jason's--still close enough to press his shoulder against kyle's own, so. )

[torchbearer]

Really?

[ he is, but not like that. ]

[reneger]

( jason gives a half-snort, half-laugh sound, but it's--accompanied by an almost uncharacteristically soft smile. he'll blame the liquor later. )

I like you. Most of the time.

[ kyle huffs, leaning back. ]

Most of the time, huh? I'll take it.

[reneger]

Most. Sometimes I still really want to break your face. Sometimes you open your mouth an' I have to resist the urge to throw you through the window. For the window's sake.

( he's fairly certain the window wouldn't break unless jason put a lot of effort into it. but he'd find a way. )

[torchbearer]

[ dryly. ]

We are such stuff as dreams are made on..

( and now they're--back to elbowing. or jason is, going straight for kyle's ribs. )

An' our little life is rounded with a sleep. Or some shit.

[ kyle huff, swatting his shoulders. ]

( really sucks they're in public, in a bar, with two younger teenagers running around and one of them jason has already traumatized. because there are so many good tables he could throw kyle through. he could sock him in the face right now, he looks off guard enough it just might work. )

[ kyle seems bemused. ]

( jason rolls his eyes, but -- )

( he can't go through the entirety of tempest. but he can maybe keep this up for a bit. )

[torchbearer]

[ he can't help but smile at that. ]

Want me to take you home?

[reneger]

After I walk a turn or two. ( but he is reaching a hand up to nudge kyle forward as jason starts towards the back door. )

Come on.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle keeps him steady, just in case. he glances back curiously for a moment. ]

Sure. Whatever you want.

[reneger]

I'm not drunk.

( just barely drunk enough to be a little off balance, but he's still shoving kyle off when he moves to steady jason. only to lean against him a moment later. it's fine when he starts it, it's not fine when kyle does. jason opens the door, takes two steps out of it, and--turns around to look up to the roof. )

[torchbearer]

[ the hot and cold approach. okay. he'll wait for jason's cue. ]

You want to head up?

[reneger]

Next time if I grab for the bottle tell me to fuck off.

( because while kyle is a great transport option, he still doesn't want to go home while mildly inebriated. not with where he's at now, even if jason's not so far gone he can't fake it. he reaches into his jacket, and pulls out his grapple gun. it takes him just a moment longer than usual to steady his aim, but he's getting it without any outside help, thanks, just like he's using the velocity of the line pulling up to pull himself right up onto the roof without any help. )

[torchbearer]

Like you'd listen to me.

[ he flies up to the roof. his gaze shifts to the stars. when he was young, his mother would take him outside and teach him every constellation. just sitting there and talking. he turns his gaze back at jason. ]

Are you all right?

[reneger]

I'm good.

( he is now, after having a few deeper than intended conversations with junior and mostly unintentionally pissing off bruce.

it's a good several steps away from the ledge where jason drops himself down to sit. yanks on kyle to get him to sit down next to him. )

An' maybe if you tried harder to be convicing, I'd listen.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle relaxes, settling against jason. maybe he just needed a break from it all. who could blame him? ]

Oh yeah? And how am I supposed to do that?

[reneger]

If you can't figure it out on your own, I'm not gonna help you.

( he likes to watch kyle work for it. but jason doesn't make it too hard now, leaning into him a little after he settles. )

[ typical. but that's the kind of stuff kyle likes anyway. ]
