a spark ignites ( closed; kyle )

( it's the middle of the day, which means it's jason's usual sleep hours. when he closes himself in his room with the black out curtains drawn to get a couple hours of sleep, twenty minute intervals. but he's not asleep right now.

no, he's settled into the new couch in their new apartment, curtains closed to block out the sunlight because it's too bright and he hates it, thank you. and on the tv in front of him, akage no anne plays through the second episode, subtitles off because jason doesn't need them, thank you.

he can watch an anime in the dark and quiet when the sun is shining bright outside, in sweats with his hair sleep-fussed, while everyone else is out. like a normal person, because this is clearly normal jason behavior. )

[torchbearer]

[ kyle is dropping in after a patrol, a bit listless. galatea is gone and he hopes, he dearly hopes that she finds her way. he gets the feeling life back in her own reality was . . . rough.

he's a little distracted when he comes in, briefly pausing because he knows that sound. the sound . . . of anime. ]

What are you watching.

[reneger]

( the living room is dark, illuminated only from the laptop he's got hooked up to the tv and the tv itself. the only noise is anne chattering while she rides the carriage--up until jason hears kyle and he's lurching up to his feet, quickly moving over to the laptop to slam it shut. it causes the tv screen to go dark, and anne's voice cuts off. )

Nothin'.

( nothing at all, see. he's just--standing in a dark room, hand on the laptop, watching nothing. )

Uh-huh.

So you're just sitting in the dark?

[reneger]

Yep.

[torchbearer]

How very Gotham of you.

Then you wouldn't mind if I check out the laptop . . . ?

So you can snoop on my search history?

( kyle's onto him. the jig is up. he did this to himself. and yet. )

You're not gonna find anything fun.

[torchbearer]

Don't worry, I'm not expecting fun from you.

[reneger]

I'm fun.

( rude. his hand stays on top of the laptop, but he's looking down to it and then back over to kyle. )

Are you gonna drop it?

( or is this something jason should prepare to battle over the laptop over. )

Depends.

Is it that big of a deal?

[ he's not above being an asshole too after all. ]

[reneger]

( he's squinting at kyle from across the room. there's a few ways this could go: kyle lets it go, and jason lets up and reopens the laptop just because kyle let it go. he doesn't let it go, and jason stands his ground right here until the end of time because--he can. no other reason. or, kyle opts to try and force it, and it turns into battle royale over a laptop. because jason was watching an anime and clearly letting the household weeb know that is just asking for trouble.

the squint relents into an easy grin. )

It's a big deal. Big. Huge.

[ whenever jason grins, kyle always gets a bad feeling. like a force warning from star wars. ]

That you were watching anime? Anime is very mainstream these days.

[reneger]

Being mainstream is shit.

( but he's rolling his shoulders, taking his hand off the laptop, and opens it up. the screen flickers back on to anne in the carriage. he hasn't unpaused it, so it just. sits there. )

[torchbearer]

[ now it is kyle's turn to squint. ]

I don't think I know this one.

[reneger]

( the look jason throws kyle is a mix between shocked and disappointed. )

Are you serious? This is your thing.

[torchbearer]

I don't watch every single anime.

I'm guessing this is one of those based on a western classic?

[reneger]

It's Anne of Green Gables, you plebeian.

( and now he's turning to restart it from the first episode.

turns on the subtitles while he's at it. because he's nice like that. )

[ kyle grins, settling in. ]

How did you even find this?

[reneger]

Drake told me about it.

( jason presses play, then moves back over to the couch. drops down onto it with his arms splayed across the back. )

How did he know about it?

[reneger]

I don't question things that comes out of his mouth. He's got a shitton of random shit just floating around in that head of his.

( and tim drake is generally correct. even when everyone else thinks he's just being nuts. )

[ but that tracks for tim, he supposes. ]

He's a kid of many talents. And a nerd.

( his arm lowers down, dropping his hand onto kyle's shoulders so he can pull him in, closer. )

[ kyle makes a mock gasp as he leans against jason. ]

No! Not a nerd.

Biggest nerd I've ever known.

( he's still grinning, light and easy. he's already seen this episode so there's less need to pay attention, but jason keeps his head turned towards the tv anyway. )
